Unlike last Christmas, this time we did manage to get away - no lost luggage, no holiday companies going bust.
The Sunday after we broke up from school, we flew down to Glasgow. Nice in George Square with its lights, fairground rides, ice rink, hot chesnuts, etc.

I’d arranged to do an open-mic spot at a comedy club there. Got there and there was a whole room of other - established - comedians!!! Still went and did it though. Good experience. Coming from way up here, we can hardly say “Ah, well. I’ll do it next week instead.”
We spent Christmas in Cyprus. As we had hired a car, on Christmas Day we went up into the Troodos Mountains where 6,000 ft up it had been snowing. Great, playing in the snow on Christmas Day, then down for a paddle in the Med. Apparently this was the first time in 4 years it had snowed in Troodos at Christmas.
As we drove up the narrow windy road, we passed pickups heading down with piles of snow in the back. Cypriots speed up to the mountains, gather snow, then race back down to their homes.

The next day, after eating fresh kumquats off of a bush growing in a garden - at the invite of the owner I hasten to add - we drove into a wee village, nice lights in the village square, we were in shorts and shirt sleeves, people were sitting outside having a drink at tavernas - and there was a snowman!!

Shock when we flew back to Glasgow though. From 20 degrees to -3!
